Several arrests have been made in the Texas Attorney General’s Election Integrity Unit probe of possible illegal voting.
Ken Paxton’s office said Saturday afternoon that it received a tip this past week that some convicted felons who were on parole, on probation or were still behind bars had cast ballots in early voting before Tuesday’s midterm elections.
The attorney generals’ office says it verified the identities of those participating in the scam who had allegedly cast the votes in Harris County, and an investigation led to evidence of “potential violations of the Texas Election Code.”
“Today, my office arrested convicted felons for voting illegally in Texas,” Paxton said in a statement. “My Election Integrity Unit is actively investigating additional reports of election crimes. We will continue working to protect the lawful votes of Texans.”
Arrests in Montgomery County, north of Houston, were made Friday, using warrants by investigating officers from the AG’s office.
Paxton’s office added that it will continue to investigate allegations of illegal voting.
