Better sight lines, more trails and adding a creek crossing were points of discussion at the latest public input meeting for the future redesign of Harriet Creek Ranch Park in north Fort Worth.
Blaise Grissom, the project manager from the Fort Worth Park & Recreation Department, along with Mackenzie Cejka, landscape architect with Kimley-Horn, were the primary representatives for the project at the Phase II Oct. 22 meeting.
Community members asked whether a bridge could be built over the creek. Grissom said building one was initially part of the 2008 Master Plan but went on to explain, “You can see where everyone’s crossing, which is a little bit further up here. Because this is all in the floodplain, to build anything in this, like a bridge over it, requires a lot of studies. It could easily burn through the budget we have to get the study and the permit to build it.”

The city has $425,000 for the current phase of improvements to the park.
A community member in attendance said a study conducted about 10 years ago found it would cost $11 million to construct the bridge. Grissom noted that the study is not part of the project record, prompting a question about who did the budget, but the community member did not recall who it was.
When community members were asked what would make them visit the park more, answers included walking trails, preferably a loop. One of the attendees explained that it would be a nice addition because walking in the neighborhood was not ideal due to traffic and cars parked on the street.
Attendees also stated that they would like sight lines improved. This would entail mowing more of the grass but also clearing out some of the undergrowth and vegetation near the creek. Grissom observed that the 2008 Master Plan included a notation that they needed to clear the understory and prune trees.
The final recommendation was active spaces for adults and kids, like a soccer field and backstop for baseball or softball.
Grissom said they were in the early stages of planning and that it would be late 2027 or early 2028 before construction could begin.
