HOUSTON – An 18-year-old man was killed early morning after his car struck a pole at the intersection of South Sam Houston Parkway West and South Post Oak Road, according to Houston police.
Southwest Patrol officers responded to the single-vehicle crash at about 3 a.m. An off-duty officer who was waiting at a traffic light told investigators the car was traveling about 80 mph when it went through the intersection and hit the pole.
The impact split the older-model Audi sedan in half and ejected the driver, police said. Houston Fire Department personnel attempted lifesaving measures, but the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators have not determined whether alcohol was a factor. Personal belongings found in the vehicle suggested the driver may have been coming from a Halloween party, but that has not been confirmed.
