Car enthusiasts are taking over El Corona Event Center on Sunday for a festival celebrating San Antonio’s lowrider culture.
The 24th annual Low Low Car Show & Concert will feature a display of lowrider cars, a hip-hop show and a breakdancing faceoff.
The event will run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at El Corona Event Center, 7535 W. U.S. Hwy 90.
The festival celebrates lowriding, a decades-old tradition in San Antonio and other Mexican American communities across the country. Lowriding culture emerged in the 1940s and ’50s, when young Chicanos customized older cars, often incorporating Aztec and Catholic designs as an expression of their cultural identity and a statement against mainstream hot-rodding.

The U.S. Postal Service will unveil new sheets of Lowrider Forever stamps at the festival. The sheets will feature five different designs honoring working-class Mexican American communities and will be available for purchase.
Hundreds of customized lowriders will be on display, and attendees will hear performances by Lil Rob, Lil Jay, La Jaly and Krazy Pimpz.
Other events will include a lowrider hopping contest with a $5,000 prize, a breakdancing faceoff and live professional wrestling. Food, drinks and craft vendors will also be at the festival.
Tickets cost $36 and can be purchased through Eventbrite. Children under 12 can attend for free.
