A Jefferson County grand jury indicted 38-year-old Brian S. Mandel on Monday on six counts of second-degree terroristic threatening and one count of criminal attempt theft by extortion over $10,000. According to the indictments, the threats were made on Nov. 8 and Nov. 9 and were directed at Brohm, his wife, Jennifer, their son, Brady, and a juvenile identified by initials. The documents also allege Mandel attempted to obtain more than $10,000 “by threatening to inflict bodily injury.”
In a statement to 3NEWS, University of Louisville spokesperson John R. Karman III said Mandel made the threats through text messages. Karman said Mandel lives in Corpus Christi and was extradited to Louisville on Tuesday evening, where he was arrested by University of Louisville Police.
WHAS11, an ABC affiliate in Louisville, reported that the threats also included Brohm’s brother and offensive coordinator Brian Brohm, and that they came after Louisville’s overtime loss to California.
WHAS11 additionally reported that Louisville quarterback Miller Moss was also among those threatened.
Court records provided to 3NEWS show Mandel appeared in Jefferson Circuit Court for arraignment Wednesday. His next court date is scheduled for Feb. 17, 2026.
The content of the text messages has not been released.
Louisville is scheduled to travel to Texas next week, facing SMU in Dallas on Nov. 22.
