Corpus Christi broke ground on $30M in Hillcrest park upgrades, including a new trailhead, amphitheater and a $10M aquatic center set for 2027.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — City leaders broke ground Thursday on a $30 million overhaul of four parks in the Hillcrest community, launching a slate of long-promised improvements aimed at revitalizing one of the city’s oldest neighborhoods.

The project includes a new trailhead that will connect Hillcrest directly to the Harbor Bridge pedestrian and bike path, along with an outdoor amphitheater, pavilion, ball field and covered basketball courts. City officials said the upgrades are designed to bring new recreational access and momentum to an area that has waited years for major reinvestment.
A key part of the plan is a new $10 million aquatic center, which city officials said is expected to open in spring 2027. Most other components of the parks package are scheduled to wrap up within the next year.
Peter Zanoni, Corpus Christi’s city manager, said the groundbreaking represents meaningful progress for a historic neighborhood that has long deserved attention.
“To know that the city cares about this area of town, I care about it,” he said. “This is one of our historic neighborhoods, one of our historic areas where Corpus Christi really originated.”
Officials said the full package of improvements is intended to strengthen quality of life while restoring amenities lost or underdeveloped over time.
City leaders said the goal is to deliver long-overdue upgrades and ensure Hillcrest residents see visible improvements as construction moves forward.
