The holiday magic has arrived in Cowtown! At 86 feet tall, the Norway spruce surpasses the height of the iconic Rockefeller Plaza tree in New York City by 11 feet!
FORT WORTH, Texas — After a long, weather-delayed journey from Michigan, the 79th Annual Fort Worth Community Christmas Tree has officially arrived in North Texas.
The towering Norway spruce, standing 86 feet tall, reached Sundance Square on Thursday, one day later than planned.
According to organizers, the more than 1,200-mile trip took four days as the transport truck encountered multiple delays, largely due to snowy conditions along the route. The tree will spend the night in Sundance Square Plaza before its installation on Friday morning.
This year’s Christmas tree is notable not just for its challenging journey but also for its impressive size. At 86 feet tall, it is the tallest live Christmas tree in Texas, surpassing the height of the iconic Rockefeller Plaza tree in New York City by 11 feet!

Crews will begin installing the tree on Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Workers will lift the massive spruce from its transport truck and secure it in its stand in the center of the plaza. The public is invited to watch the installation process.
Also from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Sundance Square Pavilion will showcase this year’s hand-painted ornaments. Several of the “Christmas Ornament Elves,” local artists who create the custom decorations each year, will be on-site to meet visitors and discuss their work.
Did we mention that Santa Claus is expected to be there, too!
