MIDLAND COUNTY, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – Members of the Texas Anti-Gang (TAG) Center – Permian Basin helped take a shooting suspect into custody earlier this week after receiving information from law enforcement in Lubbock.

According to officials, on November 11, Lubbock Police and the TAG Center in Lubbock were investigating a shooting that occurred earlier that day. Officers responded to a Lubbock home around 11:20 after receiving reports of a gunshot victim. When officers arrived, they found 41-year-old Christopher Manahan with a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to Covenant Medical Center with serious injuries. Officials said they were non-life-threatening.

Officials with the Lubbock police department said the shooting started after Porter and Manahan got into a dispute at a home. Manahan reportedly got into his truck to leave when Porter shot him before running from the scene. Manahan then traveled to a relative’s home, where the first 911 call came in. According to reports, police were then able to identify the type of vehicle Porter was driving and learned that Porter was last seen traveling south from Lubbock on U.S. Highway 87.

That information was then relayed to the TAG Center – Permian Basin. Members of the center intercepted Porter north of Midland with the assistance of a Texas DPS aircraft. A traffic stop was conducted, and Porter was taken into custody.

Porter was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.

According to officials, the TAG Center – Permian Basin includes personnel from the Midland Police Department, Midland County Sheriff’s Office, Ector County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, the Midland County District Attorney’s Office, FBI, Homeland Security Investigations, and DEA/HIDTA. The center is funded through a Texas Anti-Gang grant provided by the Office of the Governor.

The Midland County Sheriff’s Office oversees the grant and hosts the facilities for the center. It is the tenth TAG Center in Texas, joining existing locations in Dallas, El Paso, Houston, Laredo, Lubbock, the Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, Tyler, and Waco.
