This North Texas Dillard’s location is closing next year. Here’s why

North Texas will have one fewer Dillard’s store after a closure happens next year.

A state warn notice posted on the Dillard’s Clearance Store at the The Shops at Willow Bend in Plano this week said the store is closing, although other North Texas locations will remain open.

The last of the anchor stores at The Shops at Willow Bend is closing in preparation for a new mall development called The Bend.

The Bend project will include demolishing a third of the mall and rebuilding for more retail, residential and travel accommodations. The project is anticipated to take three years and wrap up in 2028.

There have also been whispers of The Bend being a potential home for the NHL’s Dallas Stars, whose contract with American Airlines expires in 2031.

Dillard’s closing in The Shops at Willow Bend

Dillard’s final days will be somewhere between Jan. 12 and Jan. 25, 2026. The closure also includes layoffs of 93 employees.

The state warn notice followed an announcement from Neiman Marcus in September that it will also close its Willow Bend location in January 2027.

More than 60 other stores are anticipated to close due to The Bend project.

Looking at the bigger picture, other department stores like Macy’s, Forever 21 and JCPenney have all announced bankruptcy and store closures within the past year as online shopping continues to dominate. Forever 21 and JCPenney will be closing for good. Macy’s is closing underperforming locations, but many other spots will remain open.

The Bend project

The Bend project will include demolishing the southern half of the mall.

This will create space for the planned 800,000 square feet of mall space, which will have retail, restaurants and entertainment venues and nearly 1,000 residential units, a hotel and a seven-story office tower.
