Aggies running back Rueben Owens II went down in pain after a run with 12:49 left in the fourth quarter. He needed help off the field with an apparent leg injury. Owens did not take another carry as A&MÂ turned to senior EJ Smith for the remainder of the game.
When asked about it postgame, head coach Mike Elko seemed unconcerned by the injury.
“I think he came back in,” Elko told reporters. “If he didn’t, it’s not a massive thing.”
Owens has stepped up in the absence of Moss, tallying 542 rushing yards and five touchdowns this season. He was seen walking off the field after game under his own power.
Moss is expected to be back in the regular season, but if Owens is expected to miss time, the Aggies may turn to Smith and freshman Jamarion Morrow to carry the load. Owens missed most of last year with a foot injury.Â
Texas A&M plays Saturday at home against Samford before heading to Austin to end the season against rival Texas, likely with a shot at the SEC title game on the line.
