Cates Control Systems has selected Wylie as the site for its new corporate headquarters and manufacturing facility, marking an $8.5 million investment expected to bring more than 120 jobs to the community.

The Wylie Economic Development Corporation announced the project Oct. 31. The company plans to construct a 60,387-square-foot facility on its recently acquired property at 608 John Yeager Way. Construction is expected to begin soon, with completion anticipated in mid-2026. The site will be one of the newest additions to the FM 544 Gateway Addition, a growing commercial corridor in the city.

“Cates Control Systems is proud to invest in Wylie and become part of a community that shares our values of integrity, innovation, and partnership,” said Emily Smith, executive vice president of Cates Control Systems. “Our new facility will allow us to better serve our customers while providing a strong foundation for the continued growth of our team.”

President and owner Chris Smith said the move is especially meaningful for his family, which has long ties to the community.

“Having lived in Wylie for over 45 years, we are excited to finally get to move our business into our community,” he said. “My wife Emily and I have already had three of our daughters graduate from Wylie High, and our youngest is currently at Davis Intermediate. We love Wylie and can hardly wait to have our corporate headquarters here, allowing us to invest even more in our own community, which will include offering opportunities for students in Wylie ISD and Collin College, as well as making jobs available for those wanting to work closer to home.”

City leaders say the announcement highlights continued economic growth and new development along FM 544.

“We are excited to welcome Cates Control Systems to Wylie,” Mayor Matthew Porter said. “Their investment represents another milestone in the city’s ongoing efforts to attract high-quality employers, strengthen our local economy, and continue transforming key corridors like FM 544 into destinations for business and innovation.”

Wylie EDC Board President Blake Brininstool said the project strengthens the city’s presence in advanced manufacturing and engineering.

“This project reflects the type of meaningful investment that strengthens Wylie’s position as a destination for advanced manufacturing and engineering firms,” he said. “Our board is proud to support the continued redevelopment of this corridor and the quality jobs that Cates brings to our community.”

The project aligns with the Wylie EDC’s mission to attract and retain primary employers, expand the local tax base, and increase job opportunities for local residents.
