I love the rain. Unfortunately for me, I live in El Paso, Texas, AKA the Sun City! Although we do get a bit of a “monsoon” season in late summer, I want it to rain abundantly in the winter the most; I want it to feel like I’m in a Twilight movie.
But According to a New Texas Weather Report, El Paso Isn’t Getting Any of That
Sadly for anyone else hoping for Cullen-level gloomy skies, a new statewide weather study shows El Paso is once again the overachiever of dryness. While other Texas cities are sloshing their way through a soggy winter, the Borderland is out here giving “not a single drop” energy.

A new report from iFlooded Restoration analyzed winter rainfall across major Texas cities- and the results? Houston is basically drowning, Dallas and Arlington are getting a steady sprinkle, Austin is getting in on the action, and El Paso is getting absolutely nothing.
As in zero measurable rainfall. Zip. Nada. Not even enough to darken the concrete in front of your house. Great for clear skies. Terrible for people who secretly want to brood dramatically by a rain-streaked window.
Meanwhile, the Rest of Texas Is Having Their Own Wet Weather Moment
According to the study:
Houston leads the state with an average of 1.9 mm of rain per dayArlington comes in with 1.4 mmDallas follows at 1.3 mmFort Worth gets 1.1 mmAustin logs 1.0 mm
Basically, the middle and eastern parts of Texas are having their cozy, rainy “main character” winter while El Pasoans will still have their ceiling fans on blast and walk around in shorts.
El Paso’s Winter: Clear Skies, Mild Winds, and Zero Rain Drama
The report says El Paso saw no measurable rainfall, paired with mild 5.5 mph winds and crisp visibility up to 6 miles. Average temps hovered around 50°, giving us the classic Sun City winter experience: cold mornings, warm afternoons, and not a cloud threatening your hairdo.

So while the rest of Texas is splashing around, El Paso is thriving in its own personality trait- staying dry, sunny, and a little stubborn. At least it’s not windy.
