Lawton Group began as a single company in 1983. Over four decades, it has grown into a trusted name in HVAC, plumbing and electrical services, serving the greater Dallas-Fort Worth area through three divisions: Lawton Mechanical (commercial new construction), Lawton Commercial Services (HVAC, plumbing and electrical) and Benjamin Franklin Plumbing (residential repair).
“Our customers want professionals who are efficient, licensed and respectful,” says co-founder Keresa Richardson. “We show up on time, fix the issue, clean up and leave things better than we found them.”
Built on Values That Last
Lawton Group’s culture is anchored in three words: loyalty, attitude and work ethic. Their guiding acronym, L-A-W.
“We’re loyal to our customers and to each other. We show up with a positive attitude and we work hard every day,” Richardson says. “Finding the right people is our biggest challenge. That’s why we invest in background checks and vetting.”
Scaling With EOS
As the company grew, internal systems lagged. Lawton Group brought in Sandi Mitchell of Apex Catalyst Group and implemented the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS).
“We needed a framework that worked across all our companies,” Richardson says. “Now everyone speaks the same language. We’re aligned on what matters and when it needs to get done.”
Mitchell adds, “Within 18 months, they stabilized, became profitable again and built a strong leadership team.”
Leading With Purpose
Keresa and Brendon Richardson lead with vision and heart.
“Keresa is sharp and decisive. Brendon is thoughtful and steady,” Mitchell says. “They run a family business and that family extends to the whole team.”
Weekly Level 10 meetings and quarterly updates ensure alignment.
“We talk about our goals, our values and what’s next,” Keresa says.
Innovating in Unexpected Ways
Lawton Group challenges industry norms. The team installs leak-detection systems that automatically shut off water and offers Laundry Pro a product that ionizes and disinfects water without detergent.
“We’ve got three generations in the company now,” Richardson says. “We’re thinking long term. How do we serve more people, better?”
Service With a Heart
Serving Collin County and the eastern DFW region is personal.
“This is home,” Richardson says. “Our customers are neighbors, friends and family.”
When Mitchell’s home flooded, Lawton Group deep-cleaned the carpet and restored air quality for her and her dogs.
“They were so kind. That’s just who they are,” she says.
Consistency in Culture
Lawton Group’s strength is as cultural as it is technical.
“They live their values,” Mitchell says. “They hire, review and recognize based on culture fit. It’s how they make decisions.”
