LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – While Texas Tech linebacker Jacob Rodriguez continues to campaign for his chance to hold the Heisman Trophy at New York’s Lincoln Center, there’s no shortage of honors rolling in from within the conference. On Monday, he was named the “Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week” for the third week in a row, fourth time overall.
With four minutes to play in the first half in Texas Tech’s 48-9 win over UCF, Rodriguez picked off Knight QB Tayven Jackson, before he was brought down at the UCF 23. That pick lead to a Red Raider touchdown moments later- Rodriguez’ fourth interception this season, and the ninth turnover he’s been responsible for. In Saturday’s win, he also reached the 100-tackle plateau.
Early in Saturday’s game “J-ROD” also made a case for being the ‘offensive player of the week’ with his two-yard touchdown run of a “quarterback keeper” which gave the Red Raiders an early 14-0 lead.
Rodriguez and the No. 6 Red Raiders (10-1, 7-1 Big 12) are off this week, but will return for their regular season finale Saturday, Nov. 29 against the West Virginia Mountaineers.
