San Antonio’s gallery-filled Blue Star Arts Complex now has a new muse: Swanky wine bar and restaurant King William Wine Company has opened at 1420 S. Alamo #C102.

Co-owners Jill Quick-McCrosky and Juan Arreguin outfitted the space with deep moss green walls that highlight the sparkle throughout, from rows of wine glasses to a pair of chandeliers. Although the interior is contemporary, the entrance has the feel of a classic New York City tavern — right down to the velvet ropes and a pair of stone hounds guarding the door.

That timelessness extends to the menu, which features decadent European dishes such as butter-poached lobster tail served with corn velouté and beef osso bucco served with a bone marrow “canoe” and pecan gremolata. For a particularly festive evening, parties of six or more can even order a whole suckling pig.

King William Wine also offers a tasting experience, which can be ordered with optional pairings. The winter menu is indulgent with treats like foie gras, mushroom pâté, beef carpaccio, and caviar service.

For drinks, the restaurant offers a curated wine list that includes both classic European vintages and bottles from emerging producers. Cocktails and rare spirits will also be available, but don’t fret about having one too many. The restaurant provides guests with an Uber on request.

Beyond offering food and drink, Arrequin says he wants to cultivate a communal spirit. The spot includes a special members-only lounge with wine lockers, and curated tasting events will be offered to both the public and private members.

“We’ve built this concept with intention,” says Arreguin in an earlier statement. “Every detail — from the menu to the membership wine lockers and lounge — is about creating a space where people feel connected, where old-world hospitality meets modern exclusivity. We want to cultivate not just a restaurant, but a community.”

King William Wine is open Thursday through Saturday, 5 pm-midnight. The website teases a Sunday “bacon brunch” service coming soon.
