A Michelin award-winning Mexican and Japanese fusion spot will soon be leaving its highly visited stomping grounds in Central Texas. Ramen del Barrio recently announced it will be getting a new home in Austin early next year.

The restaurant said in a social media post that its current location at Hana World Market in north Austin is closing at the end of 2025. Ramen del Barrio’s last day of service at Hana World’s food court will be December 21, but shortly after that fans can expect a nearby relocation.

In July, the Mexican Ramen hotspot revealed it would be moving to 2007 Kramer Lane, which is only about 2.5 miles from its original on Parmer Lane. Although Ramen del Barrio is currently in the process of relocating, the restaurant said it won’t be quite ready to make its “transition right away” as it aims to open in mid-late January.

“This means RDB will be on break for hopefully no more than a month,” owner and chef Christopher Krinsky wrote on Instagram. “All endings have new beginnings, and we cant wait to serve you all in our new shop. Until then, please keep supporting us here at Hana World!! Salud gente!”

Krinskey told the Austin American-Statesman that the new restaurant will fully transform into an elevated izakaya-ramen shop hybrid with a full bar featuring a selection of Japanese whiskey and Mexican mezcal. In addition to offering its famous broths with a Mexican twist, such as Pozole and Carnitas Tonkotsus, the restaurant also serves mariscos, salsas and yaki-tacos, according to its menu.

Once open, Ramen del Barrio’s new Kramer location plans to transition into a seven-day lunch and dinner service. Inspired by his background of living in Mexico and working at three prominent Japanese restaurants in Austin, Krinsky opened Ramen del Barrio’s first brick-and-mortar at Hana World in 2023, the Statesman reports.
