EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 48-year-old man was arrested for driving while intoxicated after a traffic stop in Horizon, according to the Horizon City Police Department.

Police say on Sunday, Nov. 16, officers were traveling northbound on Darrington Road when they saw a vehicle make a U-turn and failed to travel in a single lane, traveling across multiple lanes for around 500 feet.

Officers followed the vehicle and saw that the driver, who was later identified as Albert Ramirez Montoya, 48, was swerving, and a traffic stop was initiated at the intersection of Darrington and Nunda, police said.

Montoya displayed multiple signs of intoxication, including slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and the odor of alcohol. Montoya told police that he was coming from a friend’s house and had difficulty locating his driver’s license, police said.

Police say Montoya displayed multiple indicators of impairment, including poor balance and an inability to walk straight.

Based on Montoya’s driving and physical condition, officers arrested him for driving while intoxicated. He also refused to provide a breath specimen, and a blood search warrant was obtained, police said.

A records check revealed Montoya had a prior DWI conviction from June 26, 2001, in Fort Worth, Texas.

Montoya was transported to the El Paso County Jail, where he was booked for driving while intoxicated (second offense).
