SAN ANTONIO – Following the death of a local high school student, Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones is calling for safer streets.

On Monday, the San Antonio Police Department confirmed that a 16-year-old boy, identified by the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office as Jose Flores III , had dien nearly a month after being struck by a car outside John Jay High School.
Mayor Jones, an alumnus of John Jay High School, offered her condolences to the family and called for safer streets for pedestrians.

“My heart goes out to the family and friends of John Jay High School student José Flores. In this difficult time, I know my John Jay community will unite to heal and honor this student who left us too soon.

The teen had been hospitalized in intensive care for nearly a month before succumbing to his injuries.
