With all of the talk about next year’s midterms, the main event here in Texas might just be the GOP primaries in March.
“It’s good for Republicans to fight among themselves” said longtime political consultant, Bill Miller.
There are going to be plenty of Republicans trying to win. So far, there are 114 GOP candidates that have entered the races, with more to come before the filing deadline of December 8.
Plus, retirements and redistricting have also added to the contest, with Wesley Hunt, Chip Roy, Michael McCaul, and Morgan Luttrell all not running for re-election.
And then here in Houston, is going to be the new ‘9th seat’, and one of the more competitive races.
“You’ve got Alexandra del Moral Mealer and Briscoe Cain” Miller told KTRH, “It could be one that goes down to the wire. To me, it’s the most interesting race.”
Overall, there are 38 congressional districts across the state, which means these races will bring out the best of the best for the GOP.
“Serious people, that’ll run serious campaigns, and that’s not commonplace anymore” noted Miller, “So, I think it’s a healthy thing for the party, and the elections however they turn out will re-energize the base.”
The GOP Primary in Texas is set for March 3, 2026.
