East Texas representative reacts to redrawn congressional maps being blocked

  • November 19, 2025

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – State and U.S. representatives are weighing in on federal judges in El Paso blocking newly drawn congressional maps for Texas.

State Rep. Jon Rosenthal (D-Houston) supported the decision, citing his experience being on the redistricting committee in the Texas House.

“I was right in the middle of all this so I’m grateful to see the sensible decision by the Fifth Circuit and El Paso,” said Rosenthal. “Most of the folks that I know, and whether they’re Republican or Democrat or Independent, think that gerrymandering is a poor practice.”

Gov. Greg Abbott has announced his intent to the appeal the ruling to the U.S. Supreme Court.

U.S. Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Waco) said he wasn’t concerned about the ruling and that he trusts the system.

U.S. Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Waco) said he wasn’t concerned about the ruling and that he trusts the system.

“I think the outcomes of going to the Supreme Court is a healthy thing for Republicans,” said Sessions. “We have, in Texas, we have been used to federal judges reviewing lines in the past, and I have no problem with them doing that now.”

Sessions also expressed his intent to run for re-election regardless of the final outcome.

“I’m planning on running for the 17th District of Texas, if it is the current lines or if they move, and this will be determined by the Supreme Court,” said Sessions.
