When it comes to national rankings, Lubbock usually shows up somewhere in the middle — not too wild, not too tame, but always with a little West Texas swagger.

A new rundown of America’s “Most Sinful Cities” puts Lubbock right in that middle space, landing at #108 out of 178 cities. At first glance, that seems pretty modest, especially compared to the big-city troublemakers. But once you look a little deeper, there’s one category where the Hub City doesn’t just rank above average — it rockets up the chart.

Before we get to that reveal, it helps to understand how this study measured “sin.” WalletHub analyzed 178 cities using multiple categories tied to human behavior. These weren’t based on stereotypes, myths, or old reputations — they were based on data-driven metrics in multiple subcategories.

🔎 How They Measured “Sin” For Lubbock

The report focused on several moral-themed brackets, including Anger & Hatred, Jealousy, Greed, Lust, and Excesses & Vices. Each major category contained smaller weighted sub-metrics that created an overall behavioral picture. While Lubbock stayed relatively calm and middle-of-the-road in most areas, there was one category where the city drastically over-performed: Excesses & Vices, ranking an eye-opening #22 nationally.

So what does that category include? Things like the percentage of obese adults, smokers, opioid prescriptions per capita, DUI-related fatalities, and other overindulgence-based behaviors. In other words, nobody accuses Lubbock of being angry, jealous, hateful, or lust-obsessed — but when it comes to doing too much of a good (or bad) thing, the Hub clearly knows how to push the limits.
