CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi City Council has accepted a $75,000 donation from H-E-B to bolster the local Meals on Wheels program. This contribution is part of a statewide initiative by H-E-B to support similar programs across Texas.

The funding will allow the Parks & Recreation’s Elderly Nutrition Program to deliver approximately 9,677 additional meals to 30 more elderly residents during fiscal year 2026, increasing the program’s capacity by over 15.7%, according to a press release from the city. Last year, the program distributed 51,943 meals to 266 residents.

“With H-E-B’s generous support, we can significantly expand our reach, serve more seniors than ever before, and reduce our waiting list,” said Robert Dodd, Director of Parks and Recreation. The program not only provides healthy meals but also ensures a watchful eye on the health and safety of home-bound seniors.

Since the 1970s, the city’s Meals on Wheels program has been a vital service for seniors aged 60 and older who face mobility challenges, such as preparing meals. All meals are prepared by city staff at the Nutrition Education Service Center, also known as the Central Kitchen.
