Yesterday, November 18, 2025, marked a monumental day for El Paso, Texas, and WWE fans around the world. Shortly after the 20th anniversary of his passing (November 13, 2005), the El Paso City Council officially declared the date as Eddie Guerrero Day.
The atmosphere outside City Hall was nothing short of electric, capturing the essence of “Latino Heat” perfectly. Lowriders lined the 300 block of North Campbell Street, a nod to the iconic entrances that made Eddie Guerrero a household name on SmackDown!, while fans donned luchador masks and celebrated the man who put the Borderland on the wrestling map.
Family and Fans Unite for the Proclamation
The ceremony was a deeply personal affair for the Guerrero family. Eddie Guerrero’s daughters, Sherilyn Guerrero and Kaylie Mahoney Guerrero, were in attendance alongside his sisters and cousins to accept the proclamation.
Sherilyn Guerrero, who has been forging her own path in the industry at Booker T’s Reality of Wrestling school, took the podium to speak on her father’s enduring presence. In an emotional moment captured on video, she addressed the packed chamber:
“Fortunately, I really do not think I can say the words if my dad was here because I’m looking at this crowd and he truly is. Being here today, I think we can say Eddie Guerrero is more than alive and he still lives on. And I hope that when you all think of Eddie Guerrero, you know and you think of how much he loved El Paso.”

The Legacy Continues
The proclamation is just one part of a larger movement to honor the WWE Hall of Famer. Council member Deanna Maldonado-Rocha spearheaded the effort, recognizing that Eddie Guerrero was more than just a wrestler; he was a symbol of representation for Latinos everywhere.
The influence of the Guerrero family remains a pillar of the local culture. Cinta de Oro, formerly known as Sin Cara in WWE, recently opened a lucha libre school in Segundo Barrio, continuing the tradition of technical mastery and storytelling that the Guerreros pioneered.
Adding to the excitement for the family, it was noted that Chavo Guerrero Jr. signed a new deal with WWE back in September, ensuring that the Guerrero name continues to have a presence on the global stage. From the murals in Lincoln Park to the chants of “Eddie! Eddie!” that still ring out in arenas today, the legacy of Eddie Guerrero is as vibrant as ever.
