Every Thanksgiving my family continues their tradtion of seperating Kids from Adults when it comes to seating arrangements for the Thanksgiving dinner. Why? I have no idea, but I do know that when I was younger I had to fight to get moved to the adult table even when I wasn’t a kid anymore!

For generations, many families have divided dinner seating into two camps: The adults table for the grown-ups and the kids table for, well, the kids. It’s a setup meant to keep things organized, with adults enjoying conversation while the little ones chatter about the latest cartoons or school adventures. El Pasoans Chimed in On The “Kids Thanksgiving Table” Debate:

Recently on our “Am I the Jerk?” segment, a frustrated teen shared their thoughts on the tradition. We took the debate to Facebook and asked our listeners:

What age do you think kids should graduate from the kids table? As expected, opinions were all over the place!

Some argued that 13 is the magic age because it marks the start of the teen years. Others said it depends on maturity, or that it’s only fair to move kids up when there’s space at the adults table.

Whether you’re team “Kids Table Forever” or “Scrap the Tradition,” one thing is clear: Thanksgiving traditions have a way of bringing families closer together—even if it’s over a little healthy debate.
