The 2025 UIL volleyball state championships are Thursday and Friday for Class 1A through Class 4A teams and Saturday for Class 5A and Class 6A teams at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland.

Byron Nelson has lost just four sets in one of the most dominant seasons in UIL history. Byron Nelson will take a 77-match winning streak into the state championship match, and it hasn’t lost a set in 50 of its last 54 matches.

Rice signee Ashlyn Seay leads the nation’s top-ranked team with 523 kills and has recorded double-digit kills in her last 12 matches, including 32 in a four-set win over Class 6A Division II state finalist Southlake Carroll. Washington signee Kylie Kleckner has 519 kills and has 16 matches with 15 or more kills.
Kleckner was named the MVP of last year’s state final after she had 23 kills and nine digs in a three-set sweep of nationally ranked Houston Stratford. Texas A&M pledge Sophee Peterson has been arguably the best setter in the country, and the nation’s No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2027 leads Byron Nelson with 1,459 assists — an average of 13.9 per set — and with 70 blocks.

State titles/appearances: Byron Nelson has won both of the state championship matches it has played in. It beat Plano West in five sets in the 2019 6A final and then swept Houston Stratford in three sets in last year’s 6A Division II title match.

Pearland Dawson
Pearland Dawson has won 22 matches in a row, winning all but two in straight sets. Stephen F. Austin signee Avery Koonsen had 23 kills in the regional final against Katy Seven Lakes and 26 kills in a five-set win over San Antonio O’Connor in the state semifinals. She leads Dawson with 529 kills to go with 328 digs.
Dawson has used two setters, with Grand Canyon beach volleyball signee Taylor Ranney leading the team with 750 assists and freshman Alexa Koonsen recording 460 assists. Texas A&M signee Jenna Thedford leads the Dawson defense with 698 digs and had 46 digs against O’Connor.

State titles/appearances: None. This is Dawson’s first appearance in a state final.

Class 6A Division II

Southlake Carroll
Southlake Carroll is looking for its first state title after a dominant run to the championship match. The Dragons haven’t dropped a set in the playoffs, forcing their way to the team’s first championship appearance since 1998, when Carroll lost to Dumas in the 4A final.
Ranked No. 19 nationally by MaxPreps, Carroll was led by TCU pledge Kinsley Young, who had 12 kills and five blocks against Tomball on Saturday in its third semifinal appearance in program history. San Diego State pledge Laya Austin has been crucial this season, contributing 359 kills, 376 digs, 23 aces and 10 blocks. The senior had 12 kills against Tomball.
Carroll is dominant all around, with seven of the team’s seniors signing to play college volleyball last week.
Record: 34-5
State titles/appearances: Carroll lost the 4A final to Dumas in 1998.

Austin High
Austin High is making its first state title appearance since winning the Class 5A championship in 1992. After dropping two straight sets, Austin High had a reverse sweep, defeating Katy Tompkins 15-26, 19-25, 26-24, 25-20 and 15-13. In the third set, Austin High faced match point twice, but still rallied to advance. Arkansas pledge Maggie McCarroll had 19 kills, 20 assists and 10 digs. Texas pledge Riley Malloy also contributed 25 kills and 11 digs.

Class 5A Division I

Highland Park (42-8) vs. A&M Consolidated (37-9), 11 a.m. Saturday, Curtis Culwell Center in Garland
Highland Park
Highland Park has won 20 matches in a row, dropping just seven sets during the winning streak. Highland Park, ranked No. 20 in the nation by MaxPreps, owns wins over 4A Division II state finalist Eagle Mountain and 6A Division II state finalist and nationally ranked Southlake Carroll.
Going into the playoffs, sophomore Taylor Toomay led the team with 315 kills, and sophomore Sarah Floyd had 304 kills despite missing all of September and the first part of October with a lower body injury. Memphis signee Brooklyn Bailey had 300 kills and a team-high 109 blocks, junior Anna Lee had 1,229 assists and 353 digs, and Arizona signee Gigi Whann led an exceptional defense with 654 digs.
Highland Park swept Aledo in three sets in the state semifinals as Floyd had 14 kills, Bailey added eight kills and Whann had 18 of the team’s 45 digs. Two transfers have played key roles for Highland Park, with Creighton pledge Allie Hudgins coming from Austin Westlake and UC San Diego signee Lydia Fisher moving in from Atlanta, and they combined for 13 kills and three blocks against Aledo.
Record: 42-8
State titles/appearances: Highland Park is 0-2 in state championship matches, losing to Stephenville in the 2003 4A final and falling to Hereford in the 2008 4A title match.

A&M Consolidated
Freshman Harper Korenek has been spectacular for A&M Consolidated, recording a team-high 477 kills, including 20 in the regional final against College Station and 19 in the state semifinals against New Braunfels. Korenek also has a team-leading 356 digs.
East Texas A&M pledge Jillian Vinal has 305 kills, 568 assists and 347 digs, sophomore Kendall Newton leads the team with 791 assists and Berkley White has 62 blocks.
A&M Consolidated owns a win against Aledo, a team that beat Highland Park in the regular season before being swept in the state semifinals.
Record: 37-9
State titles/appearances: This is A&M Consolidated’s first appearance in a state final after it lost in the semifinals in 1985 and 2014.

Cedar Park (38-12) vs. Argyle (38-3), 1 p.m. Saturday, Curtis Culwell Center in Garland
Argyle
Argyle, which is 10 years removed from its first state title, defeated Frisco Liberty 23-25, 25-20, 25-21 and 25-12 in a semifinal Saturday to advance to the Class 5A Division II state final. The team has won 17 consecutive matches.
Despite dropping the first set, Argyle completed the comeback behind opposite hitter Hannah Baker, who recorded 14 kills and four blocks. In the second set, she contributed five of Argyle’s last eight points. Defensive specialist Teagan Barnett had 23 digs, while Setter Makenna Gregory had 21 assists and seven digs. Four players had at least seven kills on Saturday.
Record: 38-3
State titles/appearances: Argyle has one title in five appearances, winning the Class 4A final in 2015. The program made four straight appearances from 2014 to 2017.

Cedar Park
Cedar Park is in search of its first state title in its third championship appearance. Cedar Park made the state titles matches in 2016 and 2024, but lost to powerhouse Amarillo High School and Frisco Wakeland, respectively. On Saturday, Cedar Park defeated Friendswood 25-16, 25-23 and 25-19 to advance. Outside hitters Mya Cheatum Joy Udoye combined for 26 kills. Setter Katelyn Hughes also contributed 21 assists and nine digs.
