LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Morgan Moore, an administrator at Lone Star Bail Bond, knows her job deals with a lot of discussions with those incarcerated so it’s important to be there for them while they use their service.
“We talk to them on a weekly basis,” Moore said. “We’re very big here on relationships, we want to advocate for their success.”
As part of an all-female staff, Moore feels everyone is on the same page when it comes to serving the Lubbock community. However, they’re dealing with a problem that’s impacting more than just their business.
Lone Star Bail Bond claims it began in August, when they received calls from loved ones saying they sent money through CashApp to bail someone out and they were never released from jail. That’s when alarm bells started to ring.
“We said, ‘we don’t take CashApp,’” Moore said, “it’s only check, money order, cash or card. That’s not our client.”
When more calls came in, Lone Star would ask if they received any receipts showing someone from the business took their money.
“They said, ‘yes, we have a receipt, we talked to a gentleman,’” Moore said. “That was the immediate red flag there was an imposter because we knew right then and there we don’t have a male staff member.”
Moore said the company is aware of 10 to 15 people who have been scammed, with many of them not even being clients. The Better Business Bureau was made aware of this scam earlier this month.
Lone Star Bail Bond wants to make it clear this person is not associated with the business and they will never contact family members or incarcerated individuals first. They also urge everyone to not send money if they receive a call and to file a police report.
Moore said this has hurt Lone Star and its reputation, but wants everyone to know they’re there for the people who need it.
“We don’t want them to fear us or be scared of us, we are on their team to help them through this process,” Moore said. “I really hope they get justice and this scammer will get the consequences that they deserve, because it’s not right.”
