Sachse elementary students were recognized Monday night for artwork made entirely from recycled materials in observance of America Recycles Day.

Mayor Jeff Bickerstaff presented proclamations and certificates to the young artists—all students at Cheri Cox Elementary School— during the Monday, Nov. 17, City Council meeting.

Kindergarten through fourth-grade students received applause from residents in attendance.

“The only rule was that all artwork should be made from recycled magazines, boxes, scrap paper, etc.,” Bickerstaff said. He was joined in presenting the awards by Angela Clark, assistant principal at Cox Elementary.

The winners were Chelsea Anthony, kindergarten; Cole Khamnouane, first grade; Avreen Kaur, second grade; Genesis Flores Rosales, third grade; Henley Juarez, fourth grade; and Malcolm Kelliher, honorable mention.
