LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A simple TikTok review has introduced thousands of people to a Lubbock food truck owner whose personality shines as bright as his cooking skills.
The video featuring Mr. Puffs Gourmet Seafood Catering has garnered more than 100,000 views, showcasing Dale Lewis and his passion for both food and people.
“This is my home away from home,” Lewis said about his food truck parked on 50th Street.
Born and raised in Lubbock, Lewis built his business serving gumbo, seafood boils, fettuccine, and recipes passed down from his grandmother, who lived to 107 years old. His wife helps with food preparation, and Lewis calls her the master chef who helps keep his grandmother’s legacy alive.
While Lewis loves cooking, he says connecting with customers provides the real satisfaction.
“It made me feel as though God was doing his work. He was actually standing in front of me each and every day meeting each and every person,” Lewis said.
The viral TikTok brought a modest bump in customers, but Lewis appreciates every single person who visits his truck.
“I have seen an increase of one to five and that has been so delightful for me as a small business owner,” he said.
Lewis’s energy keeps people coming back. When he’s not cooking, he waves at passing cars, hoping to brighten someone’s day.
“If the sun don’t shine, we don’t smile sometimes when it’s gloomy; we got to make that smile come through the skies above,” Lewis said.
Understanding that not everyone can eat everything, Lewis, who has diabetes himself, ensures his menu offers options for customers with different dietary needs.
With the holidays approaching, Lewis says his food truck window remains open for anyone who needs a meal, emphasizing the love he puts into every dish he serves.
Lewis operates Monday through Thursday on 50th Street in front of Five Below and Rainbow from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Tea2Go at 82nd and Indiana.
