SAN ANTONIO – A John Jay High School student who had been in critical condition since being hit by a truck back in September has died, confirmed officials with San Antonio Police Department.

The 16-year-old boy, identified by the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office as Jose Flores III, was in the crosswalk around 2 p.m. on Sept. 16 when he was hit by the truck on Marbach Road near the high school during his lunchtime.

The medical examiner says Flores died from cranio cerebral injuries.

“We just saw him hit the windshield and go over the windshield,” said Matthew Gonzalez.

Gonzalez and his friends, all students at John Jay High, were at a restaurant across the street when it happened.

His mother says he underwent emergency brain surgery to stop the bleeding.

Doctors removed part of his skull to relieve the swelling.

The driver who hit him stayed on the scene and is not expected to be charged.
