A North Texas real estate firm is taking the first major step toward redeveloping the long-vacant Valley View Mall site.

Scott Beck, CEO of Beck Ventures, has walked the open space near the old mall countless times since purchasing the property 12 years ago.

“We’re actually physically standing, I believe, in probably the food court of the old Valley View Mall,” Beck said Friday.

Beck announced the launch of a $85 million mixed-use project called Premier at Midtown, which will feature 296 apartments, along with ground-floor retail and dining, at the corner of Preston Road and Dilbeck Lane in Dallas.

“This first building will be a six-story building,” Beck said.

The ceremonial groundbreaking marks the start of construction on the broader 110-acre Dallas Midtown development. Premier at Midtown will be the first four acres of that effort.

Dallas-based Anthem Development will oversee the project. The firm is partnering with Beck Ventures and Prime Life Technologies America, a joint venture of Japanese companies Toyota Motor Corp. and Panasonic Holdings Corp.

Beck said construction is expected to begin within the next 30 to 60 days, with the first tenants anticipated to move in by 2028.
