SAN MARCOS — Texas State football is still within range of bowl eligibility. It simply needs to win out, with ULM being the next obstacle on its path toward six wins.

The Bobcats showed spirit against the Golden Eagles last Saturday, defeating the Sun Belt West leaders 41-14. It was their first win over a Football Bowl Subdivision team since Week 2 and the first time since Week 4 that the defense held the opponent to under 30 points. There were adjustments by defensive coordinator Dexter McCoil and head coach GJ Kinne, but it remains to be seen if the changes will hold up.

ULM sits at the bottom of the Sun Belt West at 3-7. The Warhawks’ statistics match their record, with the worst scoring offense in the Sun Belt (16.8 points per game) and the 10th-ranked scoring defense (31.1 points per game). Texas State’s attack hasn’t missed a beat in 2025, as redshirt freshman quarterback Brad Jackson has been electric through the air and on the ground. The Bobcats are scoring 35.3 points per game, and Jackson has thrown 14 passing touchdowns and rushed for 11.
