Texas A&M Yell Leaders make a lasting memory for a 13-year-old boy

  • November 23, 2025

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – Yell Leaders help bring the heart to Aggie games both home and way. Three seniors and two juniors from the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets, all clad in white, lead the Aggie faithful in yells and help bring the energy to every game.

With deep ties to Texas A&M and the school holding a special meaning to the Sitton family, they moved to Bryan 3 months ago.

This football season, a young member of the Sitton family got a very special Aggie experience.

It all started when the Sitton’s mostly nonverbal 13 year-old son, Weston, when he found his father’s hair clippers and gave himself a fresh new look.

“He turned them on and basically shaved a big stripe right down the middle of his head,” Thomas Sitton said.

When his father saw the cut, he said there was only one thing to do. “Sorry, buddy, you’re getting a buzz. So he had a ‘Corps cut’, a clipper cut,” Thomas Sitton said.

That night the family gathered to watch Aggie football, as they often do. Weston saw the Texas A&M Yell Leaders on television and began pointing.

“He loves to do the Aggie War Hymn. So, he started pointing at (the game), I said, Weston, do you want to be a Yell Leader for Halloween? And he said, yeah, yeah, yeah,” Thomas Sitton described.

Thomas and Shelly Sitton said Weston’s “yeah” was a big deal.

“Weston is a nonverbal kid and so he doesn’t say a whole lot,” Thomas Sitton explained.

However, when he gets excited, his parents said, Weston makes sure everyone knows it.

When Thomas shared the story with a friend who happened to be a former Yell Leader, he helped other Aggies step in to make a memory that will last a lifetime.

“We had just a quick meet and greet at the 12th Man statue,” Shelly Sitton said.

“One of the Yell Leaders couldn’t be there because he had another commitment, so they invited Weston to come in and be the fifth Yell Leader,” Thomas Sitton said with excitement.

Weston showed his Aggie pride by leading the Aggie War Hymn and left with a keepsake.

“Kyler gave him his personal 12th Man towel. So, he got to put it in his pocket just like the other Yell Leaders,” Thomas Sitton said.

For Thomas and Shelly, the moment was a proud one. “I feel honored to be his mom,” Shelly Sitton said. “I don’t know the full picture, but one day I will, and so, I want to be faithful with what I’ve been entrusted.”

Weston’s parents said he is one of just eight children in the world with his genetic disease. They said their experience with the Yell Leaders is a moment they will never forget.
