CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A 63-year-old Encino man was killed early Tuesday after his car collided head-on with a disabled forklift on FM 430, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The crash happened around 6:53 a.m. near County Road 315. Troopers said a 2021 Toyota Corolla driven by Joel Perez was traveling westbound behind several other vehicles, creating a heavy cloud of dust. At the same time, a forklift was stopped on the eastbound side of the roadway because of mechanical issues.
Investigators said Perez’s vehicle moved into the eastbound lane and struck the forklift head-on. He died at the scene and was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Roland Garza.
The crash remains under investigation by the DPS Falfurrias Highway Patrol Office.
