Bill was born in Alexandria, Louisiana, on October 26, 1937. He spent his childhood exploring the woods around Alexandria, developing a lifelong love of nature and fishing. Bill attended Louisiana Tech for one year before completing his degree in Electrical Engineering at Auburn University, graduating in 1969. He served in the U.S. Army, working in Intercept Equipment and Repair in Germany. His first position after college was with General Dynamics, where he worked on the electronic countermeasures for the F-111. He later contributed to the Air Trans project at DFW Airport before returning to General Dynamics-later Lockheed Martin-where he remained until his retirement in 2007. During his tenure, Bill worked on communication systems for the F-16 and later joined Skunk Works, specializing in fiberoptic networks. His innovative work earned him five patents. In 1984, Bill married Carolyn, and together they lovingly raised their five children. In 2007, the couple opened Chicken Scratch Bistro on the square in Weatherford, where Bill enjoyed becoming an active member of both the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce and the East Parker County Chamber of Commerce. Bill had a passion for learning and a deep curiosity about the world. He loved his family above all else, and he also delighted in ham radios, astronomy, fly fishing, clocks, and MGs. One of his proudest accomplishments was the 35-year restoration of his mineral blue 1958 MGA Coupe, lovingly named Millie. He and Carolyn were longtime members of the Texas MG Register, spending countless hours traveling with the club and enjoying adventures with their MG friends. They drove Millie to numerous events, including trips to Frankenmuth, Michigan, and Louisville, Kentucky. Bill will always be remembered and cherished by his five children, 18 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. He and Carolyn centered their lives around family, and Bill’s days were continually brightened by the ones he loved most. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. William and Pauline Stewart; his sister and her husband, Marilyn and MackKing; his brother, Bob Stewart; and his son-in-law, Gerald Beausoleil. Bill is survived by his wife of 42 years, Carolyn; his children, Mandy Beausoleil, Jen and Randy Harvey, Carrie and Conrad Streeter, Kate and Clint Early, and Brian McGrath; and his grandchildren, David Harrison (Jenna), Kenna Steele (Josiah), Kelsi Dostal (Dylan), Bryn Beausoleil (William), Hannah Neal (Paxton) Gabi Beausoleil, Austin Early, Will Beausoleil, Savannah Harvey, Owen Case, Caleb McGrath, Luke Harvey, Caroline Early, Riley Early, Allison McGrath, Erin McGrath, Connor McGrath, and Kellan McGrath.
