The Mets are starting their offseason overhaul by finalizing a trade of outfielder Brandon Nimmo to the Texas Rangers for infielder Marcus Semien, according to multiple reports.
Nimmo, a career Met, hit .262 last season with 25 home runs and 81 RBIs. Nimmo, 32, has played no less than 151 games in each of the past four seasons for the Mets. The Mets re-signed him to an eight-year deal after the 2022 season, leaving five seasons and $101.25 million on his contract.
Semien, a two-time Gold Glove second baseman, appeared in 127 games last season, his lowest total since 2017 (not including the COVID-shortened 2020 season). He hit 15 homers and drove in 62 runs. Semien, 35, is owed $72 million over the next three seasons of his contract.
