The San Antonio Spurs (11-4) start a 4-game road trip with a visit to the Phoenix Suns (10-6) Sunday. Tip-off from Mortgage Matchup Center in Phoenix, Arizona, is set for 8 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NBA odds around the Spurs vs. Suns odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Phoenix leads 1-0

San Antonio beat the Atlanta Hawks 135-126 Thursday, covering as a 1-point home favorite as the Over (234.5) was smashed. G De’Aaron Fox scored 26 points and F Keldon Johnson had 25 to lead the Spurs. Rookie F Davis Jones-Garcia also had a stellar performance, finishing with 12 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, and 4 blocks in just 19 minutes of playing time.

Phoenix escaped with a 114-113 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves Friday to cover as a 4.5-point home underdog as the Under (231.5) hit. The Suns trailed 113-105 with just over a minute to go before the Suns scored 7 points in about 30 seconds to rally. G Collin Gillespie then hit the go-ahead layup to cap off his 20-point night.

The Suns handed the Spurs a 130-118 loss on Nov. 2 in a game where Wembanyama was held to just 9 points on 4-of-14 shooting. Phoenix hit 9 more three-point shots than San Antonio in the win.

Spurs at Suns picks and predictionsPrediction

Suns 118, Spurs 1113

BET SUNS (-145).

The Suns are 7-1 in their last 8 games overall and are 3-1 in their last 4 games against the Suns. Phoenix seems to have this Spurs team figured out, and with Wemby out for this matchup, life only gets easier on both ends of the floor for the Suns. Look for this to be the first game since his injury that Wembanyama’s absence is very obvious, as Phoenix’s defense will shut down this Spurs offense.

PASS.

I lean toward the Suns to cover here as -2.5 (-115) favorites and it is a cheaper price, but I am not a fan of backing them on both plays, especially against this Spurs team that has still looked good without Wemby. Pass here and bet on the spread and/or total instead.

BET UNDER 234.5 (-110).

Both teams have top 12 defensive ratings and are top 8 in scoring defense, and while both squads are almost identically as good offensively, it will be the defense that will show itself here. G Devin Booker could have a great night as San Antonio is without its best perimeter defender in Castle, but neither of these offenses will be the story of this game.

The Under has hit in 3 of San Antonio’s last 4 games and is 4-1 in Phoenix’s last 5 home games. The Under is also 4-1 in the last 5 matchups between these squads.
