Whether you’re against the GOP’s demand to control the country by any means necessary or skeptical about Democrats, or both, it’s safe to say Washington D.C. needs a little cleaning up. Someone needs to get into those hard-to-reach places and wipe up the mess that’s been created in our nation’s capital. But who has the skill and experience to make America sparkling again?

On Friday, the name “Offer Vince ‘ShamWow’ Shlomi” filed for candidacy to be the Texas District 31 congressman in the U.S. House of Representatives. The Texan’s Brad Johnson first reported this filing. Folks, the ShamWow guy is running for public office.

The Israeli-born Offer Shlomi, also known as Vince Offer or Vince Shlomi, has entered the Republican primary for District 31, an area north of Austin covering a relatively rural area that makes sure to avoid the downtown centers of Killeen and Round Rock. U.S. Rep. John R. Carter has been representing the district for more than two decades; the 84-year-old easily won the 2024 general election, and he’s running again with $631,635 in total receipts.

But a number of folks are running against Carter in the primary, with Shlomi representing the latest member of the GOP to put his name in the hat.

So what are the ShamWow guy’s talking points as a candidate? Back on Oct. 9 he posted on X a parody video called “Woke Busters,” in which he stars as a ghost exterminator, but instead of ghosts, he’s exterminating transgender people and, you know, “woke” things. Also Valentina Gomez, the MAGA Texan who’s also running against Carter in District 31, makes an appearance.

Shlomi also appeared in a video after filing for candidacy. In the video, Shlomi stands in front of a church with rainbow-colored steps. “The woke churches are after our kids’ nuts,” Shlomi said. “Not no more, we’re not chopping nuts. You’re gonna love your nuts with the ShamWow guy.”

For those who need to decode that statement: Back in 2007, before even the Tea Party’s takeover of national politics, Shlomi as Vince Offer created an advertisement for an absorbent towel called ShamWow. Shlomi’s direct and somewhat aggressive style made him and the product an overnight sensation.

Shlomi followed up the ShamWow work in 2008 with an advertisement for a kitchen gadget called the Slap Chop. That commercial included some all-time lines definitely uttered by idiot 20-something men around 2009 and 2010, including “Stop having a boring tuna, stop having a boring life” and “You’re gonna love my nuts.”

Before ShamWow and Slap Chop, Shlomi wrote and directed two poorly reviewed shock-humor films that he now says were kept out of theaters by “woke critics and Hollywood elites.” After the commercials, he was arrested after allegedly fighting a prostitute; charges were later dropped. He married in 2014 and had one child, but divorced in 2018.
