The holiday week in North Texas is expected to begin Monday with the return of showers and thunderstorms for much of the region.

According to the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office, over a dozen counties in Dallas-Fort Worth are under a flood watch through Monday afternoon, including Collin, Dallas, Denton, Rockwall and Tarrant counties.

The flood watch, which began at 6 p.m. Sunday, is expected to affect about 40 cities in the region, including Dallas, Plano, Lewisville, Fort Worth, Frisco and McKinney.

“Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop‚” the weather service’s advisory said.
