BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Texas A&M forward Mackenzie Mgbako helped ensure 70 Brazos Valley families will have turkey on their Thanksgiving tables this year through a partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of the Brazos Valley.
The transfer student from Indiana University said giving back to his new community was important to him as he begins his time at A&M.
“It’s always amazing to get back to the community, even if I’m not from here, just helping out families in need,” Mgbako said.
For many families in the Brazos Valley, Thanksgiving can be a financially challenging time. Mgbako worked directly with the Boys and Girls Club to provide turkeys for those families this holiday season.

“I feel like that’s what it’s all about, living for something other than yourself,” Mgbako said.
Maya Raesch, athletic coordinator at the Boys and Girls Club, said she was moved by Mgbako’s commitment to serving the community.
“It’s great to get partnerships with Texas A&M and have people who go to this university and come in from other cities, other states, come in and give back to the community that is already here,” Raesch said.
As families left with their Thanksgiving turkeys, Mgbako said he was grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in his new home.
“It’s an amazing season to be grateful for the people around you and get back to the community,” Mgbako said.
