NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion women’s basketball will take their five-game win streak on the road to Frisco, Texas to compete in the 2025 Hoopfest Women’s Basketball Challenge. The Monarchs face off against two Power Four opponents starting with Texas Tech on Tuesday, Nov. 25 and then Oregon on Thanksgiving Day, Thurs. Nov. 27 at noon.

ALL TIME SERIES & LAST TIME OUT:
ODU leads the all-time series against Texas Tech, 3-1. The last matchup between the two programs occurred on Nov. 27, 2021 when Old Dominion defeated the Lady Raiders 59-45. The Monarchs met TTU at the Van Chancellor Classic held in Katy, Texas and defeated Saint Joseph’s 67-50 on Friday, Nov. 26 before defeating the Lady Raiders. ODU scored 17-unanswered points in the second quarter en route to a 59-45 win.
ODU leads the series against Oregon, 1-0 after ODU won the lone matchup on Dec. 18, 1980 by a final score of 68-67. As a part of the Giusti Tournament held in Portland, Ore., the Monarchs defeated USC (73-56), Texas (60-58), and ultimately Oregon (68-67).

Old Dominion heads into the tournament on a five-game win streak and most recently defeated NC Central, 85-48 on Sunday.Â
The Monarchs have the fourth-best offensive rebounding output in the nation and are the seventh best in total rebounding. ODU grabs 29.8 defensive rebounds per game to rank 43rd in the nation. ODU’s success in the full court press has been a key factor in ranking 27th in the nation with 13.4 steals per game. The Silver and Blue’s interior defense is also stout led by Riley Stack, Simone Cunningham, and Laila Walker who have denied an average of seven blocks per game to rank 10th in the NCAA. ODU shot 66.7% from the free throw line in the 2024-25 season and this year have shown significant improvement, shooting 77.14% from the charity stripe to rank 43rd in the nation. The Monarchs have made 16.2 free throws per game to sit 41st nationally. Old Dominion has one of the stoutest defenses in all of women’s college basketball and holds opposing teams to 30.7% shooting from the field, which is good for eighth in Division I.Â
Simaru Fields leads the Monarchs in scoring with 12.7 points per game followed by Cunningham with 12.3 ppg. En’Dya Buford rounds out the top three ODU scorers and averages 11.2 ppg. Cunningham grabs eight rebounds per game to rank first on ODU followed by senior transfer Laila Walker. Stack, a junior transfer from Coastal Carolina has started three games for Old Dominion and averages 3.7 ppg, 5 rpg, and 3.3 blocks per game. Fields and Buford have both made 10+ threes in the first six games with Buford having a team high 13 made three-pointers and Fields with 12. Cunningham is a big reason why ODU’s free throw percentage jumped +10 percentage points this season. She is 26-33 at the line for a 78.8% percentage. Last season she shot 54.4%. Fields has also taken a jump, last season she shot 59.5%, going 25-42 on all attempts. This season, she is 16-18 at the charity stripe (88.9%). Kelsey Thompson is 91.7% at the line, going 11-12, and Dalanna Carter is 10-13 for 76.9%.
ODU ranks first in the Sun Belt in blocked shots (35 total, 7 per game), offensive rebounds per game (20.20), offensive rebounding percentage (44.1%), field goal percentage defense (30.7%), three-point FG percentage defense (24.3%), free throw percentage (77.1%). ODU ranks second in the SBC in defensive rebounds per game (29.8). ODU is third in scoring margin (+16.8), and scoring defense (55.2). The Monarchs have the second longest win streak in the conference and trail only Southern Miss., who is 6-0 this season.
ABOUT TTU:
Texas Tech is 7-0 this season and defeated New Mexico, 82-57 on Sunday, Nov. 23. They are led by head coach Krista Gerlich in her sixth season at the helm.
The Lady Raiders have three different scorers who average 16+ points per game. Jaylnn Bristow (16.6 ppg), Snudda Collins (16.6), and Bailey Maupin (16.1) lead the TTU attack. Bristow ranks first on the team with 7.3 rebounds per game and has also made 18 blocks and swiped 13 steals. Gemma Nunez has a team high 18 steals and 42 assists in seven starts. Sarengbe Sanogo has started every game for Texas Tech and averages 4.4 ppg and 3.6 rpg.
As a team, Texas Tech averages 80.3 ppg and concedes 55.6 for a +24.7-scoring margin. TTU shoots 46.8% from the field and holds opponents to 31.6% shooting per game. From deep, Texas Tech averages 8.4 makes per game and shoots 36.6% from behind the arc. The Lady Raiders shoot 72.3% from the free throw line and make an average of 15.3 per game.

Oregon is 6-0 and plays St. Mary’s on Tuesday before taking on ODU on Thanksgiving Day. The Ducks are coached by Kelly Graves in his 12th season with the program.
The Ducks have four players that all average 10+ points per game. Mia Jacobs paces the offense with 16.2 ppg followed by Katie Fiso’s 14.5 ppg. Elisa Mevius (12.5 ppg) and Sarah Rambus (10 ppg) round out the top four Oregon scorers. Fiso, Jacobs, and Rambus have all started six games. Sofia Bell has started six games, the junior 6-0 guard averages 7.5 ppg and 2.5 rpg. Fiso is the Ducks’ leading provider and has made 49 assists and Jacobs is the leading three point shooter with 13 makes on 39.4% shooting.
Oregon scores 85 points per game as a team and concedes 53.3 points per game for a +31.7-scoring margin. They shoot 50.8% from the field with an average of 33.5 makes per game. From behind the arc, Oregon shoots 33.8% on 7.5 makes per game. At the free throw line, the Ducks shoot 80.8% with 10.5 free throws made per game. The Ducks grab 36.7 rebounds per game and have a +6.2-rebounding margin and dish out 21 assists per game while having a +10.2-rebounding margin.
