Nov. 25 (UPI) — At least one tornado has touched down in the Houston area, damaging more than 100 homes, according to authorities.

The homes were damaged in the Memorial Northwest neighborhoods, Harris County constable Mark Herman said in a statement, saying first responders were searching for any injured or trapped residents.

Cpt. Steve Wilson of Harris County said there were no reported injuries.

“Long road ahead for many people as their homes were pretty damaged by the twister,” he said on X.

The tornado touched down in Harris County on Monday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. No rating has yet been assigned to the storm.

Harris County emergency services reported one of its buildings in Klein sustained damage from the tornado, but said operations will not be affect.

“Rest assured, we are still answering and responding to your calls for emergency service,” it said in a statement.

Herman said there was a “strong odor” of natural gas through impacted neighborhoods and residents were being urged to avoid the area and report suspected gas leaks.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said his office received reports of damaged structures, downed trees and ruptured gas lines in northwest Harris County.

At least one fire near the 800 block of Summer Grove Circle was reported. Herman said it was sparked after a damaged tree fell onto power lines, causing them to arc and ignite.

Fire crews quickly put out the fire, he said.
