1. Texas is getting far less federal money for rural broadband expansion than expected

When the state announced that it’s set to receive $1.3 billion of federal funds to improve broadband access, rural Texans who have been waiting years for the money were disappointed.

They were expecting three times the amount.

2. Data center transforms Abilene’s landscape and economy with mixed reactions from residents

Artificial intelligence is hitting close to home for more and more Texans. Data centers housing the massive amounts of computing needed to power the AI ambitions of corporations like OpenAI, Oracle and Nvidia are popping up across the Texas landscape.

One campus in Abilene is projected to become one of the largest AI superclusters in the world once it’s fully built. That comes with mixed feelings from the community.

3. Rangers and Mets agree on Marcus Semien for Brandon Nimmo trade, AP source says

The Texas Rangers and the Mets have agreed on a trade that would send Gold Glove second baseman Marcus Semien to New York in exchange for outfielder Brandon Nimmo.

A person with direct knowledge of the deal confirmed that agreement Sunday. That person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the deal hadn’t been finalized or announced. The same source confirms that Nimmo has agreed to waive a no-trade provision in his deal.

Kerrville holiday parade brings much needed joy

Folks in Kerrville felt a little extra cheer this weekend. The Holiday Lighted Parade occurs in Kerrville every year around this time to kick off the holiday season. Store owners taking part in it said that this year it’s even more important to bring the community some much needed joy.
