1. Texas youth camps adjusting operations to comply with new safety laws; some criticize statewide policy

Almost 400 youth camps across Texas are reviewing their safety plans and procedures, determining what changes need to happen to be fully compliant with the new camp safety laws passed by the state Legislature.

2. Torn roofs and smashed windows among damage to over 100 homes in a tornado near Houston

A tornado that raced through residential areas north of Houston damaged more than 100 homes, tearing off roofs, moving garages off their foundations and smashing windows, authorities in Texas said. No injuries were reported in the storm Monday that uprooted trees, downed power lines and created paths of debris throughout some neighborhoods.

3. Texas DMV now requiring proof of legal status for vehicle renewal, registration

Texans seeking to register or renew a vehicle must now provide proof of legal status via documents such as a Texas driver’s license, U.S. passport or foreign passport with a visa. The change came on Nov. 18 from the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

Texas names UCLA’s Margueritte Bates its head coach for women’s soccer

Margueritte Bates, who led UCLA to the NCAA women’s soccer national championship in 2022, was named head coach at Texas on Tuesday.
