While the Plano and Plano West volleyball teams have key matches looming on Friday, those two had their hands full on Tuesday.

The Lady Wildcats went the distance with Prosper for the second time this season, avenging a prior defeat to the Lady Eagles and doing so in razor-thin fashion – winning 3-2 in a match where four of the five sets were decided by two points (31-29, 19-25, 25-23, 25-27, 17-15).

Plano finished with three hitters in double figures, led by 15 kills from sophomore Trinity Ellis and 12 apiece from senior Brie Veal and freshman Evelyn Pang. Sophomore Bella Osborn added four aces and 24 digs, while senior Destiny Seward accounted for six of her team’s 15 blocks.

The win pulled the Lady Wildcats even with Plano East for third place in 6-6A at 9-4. With the Lady Panthers having already clinched a playoff spot, Plano can do the same on Friday with a win over McKinney Boyd.

Elsewhere in the district, West was given a spirited battle by sixth-place McKinney before prevailing in five sets. The Lionettes nearly pulled off the reverse sweep, dropping the first two sets 25-21 and 28-26 before rallying with wins of 25-17 and 25-19 – the first time McKinney has won multiple sets against West since 2018 – only for the Lady Wolves to avoid the upset with a 15-13 win in set five.

West maintains first place in the district at 13-1 heading into Friday’s high-profile rematch with second-place Allen. The Lady Eagles are one game back in second place at 11-2 after sweeping Princeton at home on Tuesday.
