Sachse’s 2025 Christmas Extravaganza kicks off the holiday season on Wednesday, Dec. 3.
Sachse will help usher in the holiday season earlier than its neighboring cities this year when the annual Christmas Extravaganza returns with a parade, tree lighting and family activities.
The celebration begins Wednesday, Dec. 3 with a parade stepping off at 6 p.m. down Miles Road, followed by the tree-lighting ceremony at 7 p.m. at the Sachse Community Center. The Extravaganza typically features lighted floats, community groups and plenty of holiday music, giving families a chance to bundle up, wave to Santa and watch as the city officially flips the switch on the season. Additional activities and attractions are planned throughout the evening, making it one of Sachse’s biggest community events of the year.
While Sachse is first to celebrate, several nearby communities are lining up a full weekend of early December festivities.
In Wylie, the annual Wylie Arts Festival will be held Saturday, Dec. 6, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Cross Church Event Center, 200 N. Ballard Ave. The city and the Public Arts Advisory Board plan to host more than 200 indoor and outdoor vendors offering art, handmade crafts and unique gifts. Admission and parking are free, the event is rain or shine, and visitors can use Ride Awake Wylie for an easier trip to and from downtown.
Just up the street, the Victorian Christmas Market will share the spotlight that Saturday on the lawn of the Welcome Center at the historic Brown House, 301 N. Ballard Ave. The European-style market runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and features holiday vendors, Victorian carolers, photo opportunities and free craft stations and lawn games in the children’s area. No tickets are required, and the event is hosted by the city and Wylie Parks and Recreation in conjunction with the arts festival.
Wylie’s celebration continues Sunday, Dec. 7, with the Festival of Lights Christmas Parade rolling down Ballard Avenue beginning at 6 p.m. After the last entry passes, families are invited to Olde City Park for the city’s annual tree-lighting ceremony. Mayor Porter is scheduled to read “’Twas the Night Before Christmas,” and Wylie High School’s Tempo choir will perform songs of the season before the community Christmas tree is lit for the first time this year.
Another holiday highlight in Wylie will be the CPKC Holiday Express, a decorated Christmas train that will stop along the CPKC railway between West Oak and Marble streets. A free concert is planned from 6–7 p.m., and organizers encourage visitors to bring canned-food donations to support local charities.
Adding to the weekend is the Coventry Reserve Christmas Open House & Pottery Sale in St. Paul. The event is set for Friday evening from 5–9 p.m., Dec. 5, at 2004 Parker Road and continues Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Coventry Reserve is a day program that provides life-enrichment opportunities for adults with special needs once they no longer qualify for public school programs. Pottery sold at the open house and in the Coventry Reserve gift shop is crafted by program participants as part of their daily activities, with proceeds helping support the nonprofit’s mission.
In Murphy, the city will host Christmas in the Park on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 4–8 p.m. at the City Hall complex, 206 N. Murphy Road. The event features a Christmas display contest, tree lighting, food and holiday vendors, giving families another nearby option for seasonal fun.
With Sachse’s Extravaganza leading the way and neighboring communities stacking events throughout the weekend, residents won’t have to travel far to find holiday lights, music, shopping and family-friendly activities.
