Downtown San Antonio is getting a brand-new way to deck the halls. For the first time, locals can stroll through Travis Park and walk away with a fresh Christmas tree, thanks to a new centralized tree lot running through the holiday season, November 28-December 23.
The initiative comes from a partnership between Centro San Antonio and the City of San Antonio, which teamed up with Holiday Hills Christmas Trees. The family-owned grower that has supplied fresh firs to South Central Texas since 1988. The idea is to make it easier for downtown residents, office workers, and visitors to pick out the perfect tree without schlepping to the suburbs.
The temporary Travis Park Tree Farm transforms the popular green space at 301 E. Travis St. into a festive hub offering several varieties of trees. Holiday Hills specializes in firs, from the ever-popular Douglas variety to the Noble, valued for its strong limbs that keep even the heaviest heirloom ornaments from becoming a cat toy.
Parking is always free on Tuesdays through San Antonio’s “Downtown Tuesday” program. On other days, affordable paid parking is available steps from the lot through Premium Parking and Alamo Parking at:
240 Broadway St.119 N. Alamo St.201 N. Alamo St.118 Broadway St.
The lot will operate Sunday through Friday from 11 am–9 pm and Saturdays from 9 am–9 pm, making it an easy stop before dinner, after shopping, or while staking in downtown holiday attractions like the River Walk lights, Holidays on Houston, or the Travis Park ice rink.
Holiday Hills offers delivery for anyone who wants to skip hauling a tree through the streets. If a downtown jaunt is inconvenient, the company also has lots scattered across San Antonio and the surrounding Hill Country. A complete list of locations is available online.
