Friday, April 18, 2025
7:00 PM • Allen Theatre
One of the most celebrated Tejano/Conjunto groups of their era, Los Hometown Boys
started out as a family band and went on to
become one of most popular conjunto acts in the Southwest. Based in Lubbock, Texas,
the Hometown Boys had the honor of
being the first Hispanic act inducted into the Lubbock Music Walk of Fame in 1996,
and in 1997, the tune “Joes Special 10” was
named Best Instrumental at the 1997 Tejano Music Awards.
Over the years, through many tragedies with band members passing and new ones
being added, the group continued to enjoy the support
of their fans in the Lone Star State, who nicknamed the group “the Homies.” Newer
members are at lead vocals Elias
Aredondo, who has a great history of music behind him, being related to Los Huracanes
Del Norte.
The group recorded several albums for EMI Records from 1991 to 1995 before moving
to Fonovisa. The band won the 1997 Tejano Music
Awards Best Instrumental Award for “Joe’s Special 10”, 2003 – 23rd Tejano Music
Awards for Echame A Mi La Culpa which was
Album of the Year, 2010 – 30th Anniversary Tejano Music Awards, 2011 – 31st Tejano
Music Awards for Simplemente El
Jefe, and 2012 – 32nd Tejano Music Awards, for Manteniendo La Promesa.

About Lubbock Lights
In the spring of 2015, regional artists Wade Bowen, Butch Hancock, Terri Hendrix
and Lloyd Maines paired up with Texas Tech University to launch an event series
called “Lubbock Lights: Celebrating the Musical Heritage of the South Plains.”
The event, sponsored by the Office of the President and conducted by the Presidential
Lecture & Performance Series, features discussions and performances by local and
regional musical artists and gives attendees an inside look at the creative processes
and inspirations that go into each artist’s work. The weeklong festival consists
of the
participating artists visiting dozens of classrooms to discuss their process &
offer
insights to students within & outside TTU and culminates in a concert accessible
to all on the Allen Theatre stage in the TTU Student Union Building on campus.
