One former Dallas Cowboys defender can now call a franchise legend his future father-in-law.

Malik Jefferson, a former star linebacker for the Texas Longhorns and a member of the Cowboys in 2022 and 2023, is now engaged to Madison Dorsett, the daughter of Cowboys legend Tony Dorsett. Madison, who played soccer at Texas, shared the news on Instagram last week.

“My favorite chapter yet,” Madison wrote in her post, which included several photos of her and Jefferson on a boat at sunset.

Jefferson, 29, has an impressive football resume dating back more than a decade. He was the nation’s top linebacker and a five-star recruit as a prep player at Poteet High School in Mesquite, and he earned Freshman All-American honors at Texas in 2015. He added seven seasons in the NFL with seven different teams, ending with a brief stint with the Detroit Lions’ practice squad last year.

Jefferson should be proud of his football accomplishments. They still pale in comparison to Dorsett, who is both a member of both the College Football Hall of Fame and Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Dorsett won the Heisman Trophy and national championship at Pitt in 1976. He was a two-time All-Pro and one-time champion with the Dallas Cowboys from 1977-87, amassing 90 total touchdowns. Dorsett now sits No. 2 in a collection of all-time franchise rushing records, paving the way in the 1970s and 1980s for the 1990s dominance of Emmitt Smith.

Both Jefferson and Dorsett are celebrated figures in the vast history of football in Texas, and the two will likely share a Thanksgiving dinner table sooner than later (if they haven’t already). Jefferson is 42 years Dorsett’s junior. Face off in a friendly Thanksgiving football game, and I’m not so sure Dorsett wouldn’t still be the victor.
