An explosive multimillion-dollar project is coming to the Alamo City next year.
The privately funded project will be the first San Antonio location for the drilling and blasting company. The 4,928-square-foot building will be built at 27356 Bulverde Road.
For more than 50 years, Erfurt Blasting has provided controlled blasting for rock excavation — necessary for projects like site work, utility lines and highway road cuts — as well as explosive demolition of bridges and industrial structures.
The third-generation company was founded by Marcus Erfurt, who got experience with explosives while in the Navy Seabees during World War II. He got into the underground mining industry in Colorado in the 1950s and moved to Texas in 1968, four years before starting the blasting company. It became known for controlled blasts that helped develop parking garages and many existing structures in the Austin area, according to its website.
Representatives of the company couldn’t immediately be reached for more details.
