This December, the city is ready to light the candle of City Hall with its official holiday kickoff party, complete with live music, lively entertainment, and lighting of Houston’s official Christmas tree.

The Mayor’s Holiday Tree Lighting Concert will take place in Hermann Square at City Hall on December 6. Presented by Reliant, the expanded concert experience is a free experience open to all, seeing live performances, a winter wonderland Kids Zone, and brilliant light displays.

Headlining the event is R&B Grammy Award winner, Brian McKnight. McKnight will here perform a number of holiday hits alongside other musicians including Houston’s The Ernest Walker Band.

“This event is one of my favorite holiday traditions,” said Houston Mayor, John Whitmire, in a press statement. “It’s a wonderful time for Houstonians from every neighborhood to come together, share in the joy of the season, and celebrate the unity and spirit that make our city so special”.

In addition to the lively musical performances, the event will also feature radiant light displays, including the lighting of Houston’s official holiday tree. To cap off the experience, the light spectacular will host a special fireworks show as snow falls down on spectators.

Here, good boys and girls can enjoy a cheerful range of crafts, games, and holiday entertainment. The event will also have a Santa’s Workshop, where the kids can enjoy even more festivities.

Of course, Reliant’s staple blinking Santa hats, will also be back for the holiday event.
